ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഗ്രാമർ സീരീസിലെ അവസാനത്തെ പാഠമാണിത്. നാമങ്ങൾ (Nouns) കാണുമ്പോൾ Singular ആണോ Plural ആണോ എന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ പറ്റാത്തതാണ് പലപ്പോഴും മാർക്ക് നഷ്ടപ്പെടാൻ കാരണം. ഇതിൽ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ട 4 പ്രധാന നിയമങ്ങൾ താഴെ നൽകുന്നു.
1. കാണുമ്പോൾ Plural, എന്നാൽ Singular
ചില വാക്കുകൾ അവസാനിക്കുന്നത് 's'-ൽ ആയതുകൊണ്ട് നമ്മൾ അത് Plural (ബഹുവചനം) ആണെന്ന് തെറ്റിദ്ധരിച്ച് 'are' ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ അവ Singular ആണ്. അവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം എപ്പോഴും is / was ഉപയോഗിക്കണം.
News, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Politics, Electronics, Measles (അസുഖം), Billiards (കളി).
Eg: The news is good. (News are good എന്ന് പറയരുത്).
Eg: Mathematics is a tough subject.
2. കാണുമ്പോൾ Singular, എന്നാൽ Plural
ഇവിടെയാണ് കെണി. ഈ വാക്കുകളിൽ 's' ഇല്ല. പക്ഷെ ഇവ Plural ആണ്. ഇവയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം are / were / have ഉപയോഗിക്കണം.
Police, Cattle, People, Clergy, Poultry, Vermin, Peasantry.
💡 Important Rule
ഈ വാക്കുകളുടെ കൂടെ ഒരിക്കലും 's' ചേർക്കാൻ പാടില്ല.Cattles Wrong | Cattle Correct
Polices Wrong | Police Correct
Eg: The cattle are grazing. (is grazing തെറ്റാണ്).
Eg: The police are investigating.
3. 'S' ചേർക്കാൻ പാടില്ലാത്ത വാക്കുകൾ
ചില സാധനങ്ങൾ എണ്ണാൻ കഴിയില്ല (Uncountable). അതിനാൽ അവയ്ക്ക് Plural form ഇല്ല. ഇവയുടെ കൂടെ 's' ചേർക്കാനോ, മുന്നിൽ 'a/an' ചേർക്കാനോ പാടില്ല.
Furniture, Luggage, Scenery, Information, Advice, Poetry, Machinery, Stationery.
Wrong: I bought many furnitures.
Correct: I bought some furniture.
ഇവയെ എണ്ണണം എന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ: A piece of furniture / Two pieces of advice എന്ന് ഉപയോഗിക്കാം.
4. Collective Nouns (കൂട്ടങ്ങൾ)
പി.എസ്.സി പരീക്ഷയിൽ സ്ഥിരമായി ചോദിക്കുന്ന ചില കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ (Groups) താഴെ നൽകുന്നു.

ഒന്നിലധികം വാക്കുകൾ ചേർന്ന നാമങ്ങളെ Plural ആക്കാൻ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വാക്കിൽ (Main Word) വേണം 's' ചേർക്കാൻ.
- Son-in-law (Singular) -> Sons-in-law (Plural)
- Commander-in-chief -> Commanders-in-chief
- Passer-by -> Passers-by
- Step-daughter -> Step-daughters
