ഒരാൾ ചെയ്ത പ്രവർത്തിയെക്കുറിച്ച് (Action) രണ്ടു രീതിയിൽ പറയാം. കർത്താവിന് പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്നത് Active Voice. കർമ്മത്തിന് (Object) പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്നത് Passive Voice. ഇത് മാറ്റുമ്പോൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ട കാര്യങ്ങൾ നോക്കാം.
Active: Subject + Verb + Object
Passive: Object + Auxiliary Verb + V3 + by + Subject
Eg: Rama killed Ravana. -> Ravana was killed by Rama.
1. Tense Changes (ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനം)
Voice മാറ്റുമ്പോൾ Tense മാറുന്നില്ല, പക്ഷെ രൂപം മാറുന്നു. പാസീവ് വോയിസിൽ എപ്പോഴും ക്രിയയുടെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ രൂപം (V3 - Past Participle) മാത്രമേ ഉപയോഗിക്കാവൂ.

- 'ing' വന്നാൽ പാസീവ് വോയിസിൽ 'being' ചേർക്കുക.
- 'has/have/had' വന്നാൽ പാസീവ് വോയിസിൽ 'been' ചേർക്കുക.
2. Questions (Who -> By whom)
ചോദ്യവാചകങ്ങൾ മാറ്റുമ്പോൾ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ചോദിക്കുന്നത് 'Who' എന്ന് തുടങ്ങുന്നവയാണ്.
Passive: By whom was the Ramayana written?
എപ്പോഴും 'Who' എന്നത് 'By whom' ആയി മാറും എന്ന് ഓർക്കുക.
3. Imperative Sentences (കല്പനകൾ)
"വാതിൽ അടയ്ക്കൂ", "ഇത് ചെയ്യൂ" തുടങ്ങിയ വാചകങ്ങൾ Passive ആക്കുമ്പോൾ Let ഉപയോഗിക്കണം.
Format: Let + Object + be + V3
- Active: Close the door.
- Passive: Let the door be closed.
4. Two Objects
ചില വാചകങ്ങളിൽ രണ്ട് ഒബ്ജക്റ്റുകൾ ഉണ്ടാകും. അപ്പോൾ രണ്ട് രീതിയിലും ഉത്തരം എഴുതാം.
Active: He gave me (1) a pen (2).
Passive 1: I was given a pen by him. (വ്യക്തിയെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട്)
Passive 2: A pen was given to me by him. (വസ്തുവിനെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട്)
പി.എസ്.സി സാധാരണയായി വ്യക്തിയെ (Living thing) വെച്ചുള്ള ഉത്തരമാണ് (Passive 1) ഓപ്ഷനിൽ നൽകാറുള്ളത്.
